"I Like to See A Man Proud of the Place in Which He Lives"  Abraham Lincoln

2007 & 2008 were not good years for the merchants and employees of Port Jeff! The greater Port Jeff area has quickly become an economically de-stabilized zone for its merchants and employees. Our politicians have developed and keep in place programs (metered parking) and policies (ticketing and strict code enforcement) that continue to negatively impact many of the merchants and employees of Port Jeff. In 2009 the deepening financial crisis make it even more important that the merchants & employees of PJ come together and address the many problems we are all facing.

Some of the community issues, We feel that need to be revisited by Port Jeff Politicians in 2009 are: metered parking, code enforcement, strict law enforcement, motorcycle parking and special events that directly compete with our local stores and restaurants. We are also very interested in quality of life issues like litter, overflowing garbage cans, street & parking lot lighting and local environmental issues. Policies and programs that discourage visitors from coming, staying, enjoying and patronizing our Stores and Restaurants need to be changed. Let make Port Jeff a friendly, welcoming, more desirable place to visit and work.

Get Involved & Let's Make Port Jeff A Better Place!

Our politicians don't seem to care that they have implemented programs (metered parking) and policies (ticketing and strict enforcement) which are encouraging people to go and spend their time and money elsewhere. Less visitors and customers to Port Jeff means less merchants and employees in Port Jeff. Instead of chasing people from Port Jefferson we need to welcome people to our town!  We all know we are living in tough economic times but as any merchant can tell you, business is way down because of paid parking, tickets and strict code enforcement. Our customers  have voted with their feet and have stopped coming to our stores and restaurants- they don't need the hassle - they  have simply gone elsewhere. Let's work together to make Port Jeff a better place to visit and work! Contact us at Me 4 Port Jeff

Good News for The Merchants & Employees of Port Jeff!

Finally after of months of disappointing sales for the merchants of Port Jeff, the Mayor and the Board of Trustees decided to suspend metered parking in Port Jeff for the 2008 holiday season.  The good news for visitors, merchants and employees is that from Thanksgiving through New Years Day that the village will not enforce metered parking! Considering the worsening financial crisis this is great news. Parking will be free in the metered lots and code enforcement will not be issuing the usual  tickets that metered parking brings. Merchants had lobbied for suspending metered parking for the Holidays as a way of welcoming visitors and shoppers to our village. In 2007 a similar request was denied. It was clear from the beginning, Mayor Harty supported suspending the meters for the holidays. We can only hope this is the first step at revisiting the issue of metered parking. The Parking Problem was a two month problem and the solution of metering parking has  turned out to be a 12 month problem to the merchants and employees of Port Jeff who are trying to make a living in these difficult financial times.
